2025 NH Foods Angus Foundation Cadetship

Posted December 2025

Our 2025 NH Foods Angus Foundation Cadet, Declan Campbell, has officially completed his four week development program, gaining a rare and unique insight into the beef supply chain.

Run in partnership with Angus Australia, the Angus Foundation Cadetship provides young people with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the red meat industry and experience the wide range of career pathways available across our business. Declan is our third cadet to participate in the program.

Over the course of his cadetship, Declan visited four of our sites including North Sydney Head Office, our Wingham and Oakey plants, and our feedlot, Whyalla Beef.

Declan began his journey at Head Office in North Sydney, where he spent time with our Export Sales, Marketing, and Production teams, learning how our branded beef programs are developed to meet customer demands around the world.

Declan then travelled to our Wingham plant, gaining hands on experience across several departments including Quality Assurance, Production, Sales, Livestock and Waste Water Management. This gave him valuable insight into plant operations and the role each team plays in delivering high quality beef.

At our feedlot, Whyalla Beef, Declan learned about cattle receival processes, animal health management alongside the veterinary team, cattle movements and ration management. Animal health was of particular interest to Declan, who hopes to become a vet. He also spent time with the maintenance team to understand the work involved in keeping the feedlot running efficiently day to day.

Declan’s final stop was our Oakey plant, where he gained exposure across livestock operations, quality assurance, production and animal health. He also met with members of our leadership team to learn more about their roles and responsibilities across the site.

Reflecting on his time with us, Declan said the cadetship opened his eyes to the scale and complexity of the beef industry and the many opportunities it offers.

“It was interesting to see the different market opportunities for each product and how every part of the animal is utilised and exported to different countries around the world.”

After completing his gap year, Declan will commence a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland, with the goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian.

We thank Declan for his time with our teams and wish him every success in his future studies and career.
