Whyalla Beef currently has opportunities available for Livestock Team Members and Pen Riders to join our team at our large commercial feedlot located approximately 25km from Texas in southern Queensland. Following our recent expansion, the site now has a capacity of 75,000 head, making it one of Australia’s largest commercial feedlots.

This is a practical outdoor role suited to people who enjoy working with cattle and being part of a hardworking supportive team. Positions may involve pen riding and/or livestock duties, depending on experience and skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pen riding and daily monitoring of cattle health and welfare (rider roles)
  • Assisting with inducting, drafting, moving and dispatching cattle
  • Supporting the daily care and management of livestock
  • Handling cattle using low-stress livestock handling principles
  • Administering treatments and reporting animal health concerns

Knifehands & Knife Skilled Workers

Oakey Beef Exports, part of the NH Foods Group, is one of Australia’s largest and longest operating beef processing plants! Offering stable, full-time employment and long-term career pathways here in Oakey, we are currently seeking local candidates with knife skills to join our Knifehand team!

Becoming a Knifehand at Oakey Beef Exports is an opportunity to upskill and create a long-term pathway, with over 50+ different trimming and Knifehand roles in one department alone. This Knifehand position offers:

  • Full-time, permanent employment in Oakey
  • Monday to Friday shifts, with five (5) Saturday’s each year
  • 5:30AM – 1:36PM working hours (+1hr OT when required)
  • Full on the job training including a Certificate in Meat Processing

Fleet Mechanic -Forklift Technician

This position offers a diverse opportunity to autonomously apply your skills across a fleet of forklifts, palette jacks and shunt trucks. Your role will be to manage the workload pf servicing and repairs, keeping our fleet in action.

Rendering Operator – Wirrimbi

We operate our head office in Sydney, along with three beef processing facilities, positioned in prime cattle regions on the east coast of Australia. We also own and operate Whyalla Beef, one of Australia’s largest, state-of-the-art feedlots located in Southern Queensland.

This position is a General Labouring position located at Wirrimbi, on the outskirts of Macksville on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The role is to assist in the control of material for the disposal by rendering.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The role will require you to ensure material is collected, dispatched and rendered according to company requirements.

You will be working to a regularly rotating roster, which includes shiftwork

Step into a professional team within a large-scale industrial setting. Utilise your expertise and commitment to safety to lead boiler operation. Your role will be to:

  • Operate and monitor boilers, refrigeration systems, compressors, and associated plant machinery;
  • Ensure safe operation in accordance with WHS legislation, site procedures, and manufacturer guidelines;
  • Conduct routine inspections, checks, and log readings;
  • Respond to alarms, faults, and abnormal operating conditions;
  • Perform start-ups, shutdowns, isolations, and changeovers;
  • Coordinate with maintenance and production teams;

Accounts Payable / Accounting Assistant

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant / Accounts Payable Officer to join the finance team at our Oakey processing plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Accounts Payable invoices in line with company policies and procedures
  • Manage vendor setup and maintain accurate supplier records
  • Prepare and process weekly batch payments
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Reconcile and maintain accurate records for petty cash
  • Reconcile and monitor corporate card transactions
  • Assist with accounting tasks including posting journals and preparing journal entries
  • Maintain accurate and organised filing of financial records and documentation
  • Support the Finance Manager with various accounting functions and reporting requirements
  • Assist in reviewing and improving Accounts Payable processes, supporting end-to-end workflow from invoice entry through to payment
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all financial transactions

We are recruiting Labourers, Renderers and Packers to join our team. You will be working full-time, Monday – Friday, with carrying day, afternoon and night shifts available. Mechanically minded applicants will be highly regarded for the Renderer division.

Please note that 417 Working Holiday Visa holders are welcome to apply however, must be able to commit to a 6-month period.

Mechanical Maintenance Fitter

We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Maintenance Fitter that demonstrates initiative and motivation to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will have opportunities to develop your leadership skills by supervising apprentices. Some of your responsibilities will include investigating, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing on-site equipment. It is crucial that you promptly report any defects and breakdowns and ensure compliance with engineering practices.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing, modifying, constructing, and installing equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment. You will also efficiently resolving operational or technical equipment issues and providing feedback to your Maintenance Supervisor.

Please note there may be occasions when you are required to work overtime, be on standby or be available for callouts. Due to the this and the lack of public transportation, a valid driver’s license and personal transportation are required.

Electrician

We are recruiting for a full-time Electrician capable of working rotating Monday – Friday shifts and dedicated to completing electrical repairs and maintenance to applicable standards. As an Electrician, you will assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, proactively identify potential plant improvements, and oversee the development of preventative maintenance systems to maximize productivity.

Due to the lack of public transportation, a valid driver’s license and personal transportation are required.

Livestock Handler

We are seeking an experienced Livestock Handler. All positions are full time permanent positions with current wages under the current Enterprise Agreement. (Based on a 38hr week). You must be able to work a weekly rotating roster of morning, afternoon and night shift.

Skilled Meat Workers -Boners, Slicers & Slaughterers

We are always seeking Skilled Meat Workers who will work well in a team of dedicated and hard-working individuals and be prepared to be think on their feet to troubleshoot any challenges that may arise. Positions available for Skilled Meat Workers include Boners, Slicers and Slaughterers. Salary Range: $70,000-$77,000.

The schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, allowing you to enjoy your weekends and relax while spending time with friends and family.
