Our Oakey team took part in the latest Meat-Tech Futures event in Toowoomba, joining students, teachers and industry representatives for the program’s biggest event yet.
Developed by integratedSTEM alongside Australian Meat Processors Corporation (AMPC), the event is designed to showcase the diverse and evolving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) career opportunities available within the red meat industry, connecting young people with a pathway that suits their skills.
Over the course of the two-day event, 54 high school aged students, 12 teachers and 30 industry representatives, engaged in hands-on workshops, explored emerging technologies within processing, and worked collaboratively to solve real industry challenges.
What sets this event apart, is that students don’t need to exhibit a prior interest in red meat processing as a career. The value of the event is in showcasing how their STEM skills can be applied across industries that they may not have previously considered. Initiatives like Meat-Tech Futures play a significant role in attracting new talent to our industry, helping young people better understand the critical role of STEM-driven innovation in shaping the future of red meat.
The next Meat-Tech Futures event will be held in Brisbane on 27 and 28 May.
